How noisy is the system?

Our system is 3-bladed and, as with all similar dynamic generator systems, there is a degree of noise caused by wind-rush on the structure and by the blade tips cutting through the air. Micropower Antaris turbines are due to their design, one of the quietest turbines in the world, however there is no such thing as a silent turbine and you will get slight wind whistle.

What is the lowest wind speed at which the turbines will start generating electricity?

The system will start generating electricity at approximately 1.5m/s with a reasonably constant wind flow. Higher speeds rapidly deliver more electricity.

What about exporting to the Grid?

The ESB has strict conditions for exporting unused power back to the grid. Special application forms for a smart meter will need to be filled out by Micropower. The ESB will then connect the smart meter once approval has been given. Only specific inverters are allowed to connect to the grid.

What happens when ESB power supply is down?

Our systems go into 'safe shutdown' and self-start when the Grid supply is restored.
